Pilankar Masale

The legacy of Pilankar Udyog starts with Mr Shankar Rao Pilankar, who started a small household business of spices as their livelihood. Mr Shankar Rao along with his wife started making basic cooking Masale such as Garam Masala, Malvani Masala, Kolhapuri Masala (Kanda Lasun Chutney) as their source of income in the late 50s. The taste of these spices became very popular in no time. People liked the quality and taste, knowing this Mr Shankar Rao decided to start a small business under the name of Pilankar Udyog. Initially, he started preparing masala at home with the support of his wife and his family members. The demand for Masale increased day by day and the daily preparations weren’t enough.

By 1968 he started his production in a small commercial place with a couple of workers. Soon he had to move his production to a bigger place and the helping hands also increased in number. Knowing that women had better knowledge of food and taste he hired women workers for production purpose. As the Pilankar ladies were looking into the production workers always felt safe and homely.

In a couple of decades, Pilankar Udyog became a brand in the Food industry in Kolhapur. By the time his younger soon started working hand in hand with his father. Mr Dilip Pilankar, son of Shankar Rao Pilankar eventually took over all the production and marketing responsibilities. He started developing a packaging system and also expanded the workforce.

After marriage, Mr Dilip along with his wife took Pilankar Udyog to a new height. Mrs Sayali, wife of Dilip Pilankar was from a metropolitan city. Hence, she knew how hard it is for a woman to manage work at the office as well as at home. Knowing this she started to develop Instant ready to cook masala. After a good response from customers for this new launch, she geared up and produced a wide range of instant gravy mix in veg as well non-veg dishes. With the increasing variety of products and customer demand, Mr Pilankar started expanding his market boundaries from the Kolhapur district to various parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

With continuous hard work and determination, the couple has made Pilankar Masale a brand known all over Maharashtra. They have created a variety of products that are useful in cooking on daily basis. The range includes basic masale such as Kolhapuri masala, Malvani Masala, garam masala, or the ready cook range, including Misal masala, Pav bhaji masala, restaurant-style Paneer Makkhanwala, butter chicken, Hyderabadi dum biryani and many more. Taste adding collection includes kitchen king masala, Chaat masala, Tak (Buttermilk masala). Healthy add-ons such as Nachni Satv, Milk masala.
